FILM SCREENINGS:
OUR PICKS FROM THE FILMHOUSE:
The Gentiles (Las gentiles) (Latin Connections FF) - Ana is going through a strange moment. In addition to going through the family conflicts and identity issues typical of her age, she experiences something new. While forming a close bond with her new friend Corrales, the word suicide somehow enters into their lives, at first only as a distant and transgressive idea, fuelled by their interactions online. However, little by little, what at first seemed to be a game on social media, starts to filter into reality. 8 June, 8.15pm
The Dog Thief (El ladrón de perros) (Latin Connections FF) - Martín is an orphan who works as a shoeshine boy on the streets of La Paz, Bolivia. One day, he decides to steal the dog of his best client, a lonely tailor he has begun to imagine is his father. He hopes that in helping the man to search for the dog, the two of them will become closer as they spend time together. 10 June, 8.15pm
2001: A Space Odyssey (70mm) - Undoubtedly the most influential science-fiction film of the '60s, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a spellbinding masterpiece that can still make you dizzy with wonder. 8 June, 7.30pm
The Birdcage (30th anniversary) - Part of Lavender Lens. Armand and Albert have built the perfect life for themselves tending to their gaudy Miami nightclub. But their pastel tranquility is shaken when Armand's son announces that he's marrying the daughter of ultra-conservative Senator Keeley... and they're all getting together for dinner! Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr. and Mrs. Family Values in time? It'll take the performance of their lives! 9 June, 8pm
Breaking Social + Q&A - Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Fredrik Gertten (Push, Bikes Vs. Cars, Big Boys Gone Bananas!*) returns with Breaking Social, an analysis of patterns of kleptocracy and extractivism around the world. The film follows some of these global stories, and through the people fighting these inequalities we see the possibilities of overcoming injustice - reimagining the building blocks of our societies, and finding hope along the way. Q&A with Transparency International [UK]. 11 June, 8pm
I Saw the TV Glow - When a lonely teenager is introduced by a classmate to a mysterious late-night TV show - The Pink Opaque - the world within the show begins to feel more real than real life. Jane Schoenbrun’s evocative and uncanny story of suburban horrors and coming of age in the mid-1990s creates a foreboding feeling that unspools across decades before reaching a breaking point. OUR PICKS FROM THE CAMEO:
Savage House - Set against the backdrop of 18th century England, a massive Pox outbreak, and Jacobite Uprising - this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage’s (Foy) blind pursuit of a better life.
It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power. Playing all week.

Köln 75 - Keith Jarrett’s iconic January 1975 performance nearly never happened.
Based on a true story, Köln 75 follows the young, driven concert promoter Vera Brandes as she conceives and organises the event against all odds.
