The Vanishing (Spoorloos): A superb psychodrama which twists the slenderest of plots into a hellish exploration of human potential. On a driving holiday in France, a young Dutch couple, Saskia and Rex, stop at a service station to refuel; as Rex waits, Saskia walks to a nearby toilet, and vanishes without trace. Three years
later, an embittered Rex finds himself drawn into a nightmarish relationship with Saskiaâs awesomely mundane abductor, Raymond Lemorne, who, via taunting postcards, promises to reveal the fate of his lost love... 22 June, 8.30pm
Time and Water: From award-winning director Sara Dosa (Fire Of Love, 2023) Renowned Icelandic poet and author Andri SnĂŚr Magnason is chasing something elusive. As the glacial ice of his homeland melts, he constructs a cinematic time capsule to hold onto this moment and send it to the future, before everything he loves slips away. Time and Water is a universal reflection on the power of home and what it means to be alive amid profound epochal change. 23 June, 1.15pm & 25 June, 3.15pm
Queer Film Prize 2026: This June, we celebrate the best LGBTQIA+ short films made in Scotland. Filmhouse is a nominating partner of the Iris Prize Best British Short and weâve selected an LGBTQIA+ short film to nominate from our region!
The winner and Scotlandâs nominated film to be part of the Iris Prize Best British programme will be announced at the screening. 24 June, 6pm
Cactus Pears + Q&A: Set in rural Maharashtra, Cactus Pears follows Anand (Bhushaan Manoj), a Mumbai call-centre worker who returns to his ancestral village to observe the ten-day mourning ritual following his fatherâs death. While navigating the pressures of family expectations and marriage, he reconnects with Balya (Suraaj Suman), a childhood friend facing similar struggles. Over the course of the mourning period, their bond deepens into a tender and intimate relationship, creating a quiet exploration of grief, identity and queer love within a traditional rural community. This screening will have a short introduction and be followed by a Q&A with director Rohan Kanawade. 26 June, 5.45pm

Effi o Blaenau: Based on Gary Owen's much lauded and widely performed monodrama, Iphigenia in Splott, Effi o Blaenau is director Marc Evans' cinematic interpretation set against the wide open landscapes of North Wales. Multiple screenings all week.
Girlfriends by Tracy Choi Ian-Sin: Told in reverse chronology, Girlfriends follows Lok, a queer Macau-born filmmaker, across three relationships and stages of life â at 34 in Hong Kong, stalled creatively and resistant to her partner Bei Bei's push toward commitment and family; at 22 in Taipei, in a passionate but doomed relationship during university; and at 17 in Macau, navigating a first love that awakens her sexuality. It's a semi-autobiographical drama charting a young woman's coming-of-age and ongoing search for her place in the world. 22 June, 2.40pm
The Invite (preview screening): Joe (Seth Rogen) and Angelaâs (Olivia Wilde) marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors (Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton) for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places, revealing deeply repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.

Edinburgh Shorts Showcase: The 48 Hour Film Project and Screen Education Edinburgh present an evening of short films showcasing the best in local filmmaking talent. The screening will be followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers and networking after. This screening will be captioned with live BSL Interpretation for the Q & A. 25 June, 8pm
The Last Viking: After serving fifteen years in prison, bank robber Anker (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) is determined to recover the stolen money his brother Manfred (Mads Mikkelsen) buried years earlier. There's just one problem: Manfred, caught in an identity crisis and convinced he is John Lennon, can no longer remember where it is hidden. The brothers set off on an increasingly chaotic hunt for the missing fortune, digging up old family secrets on the way. From Friday 26 June

âCinderellaâ by Rudolf Nureyev: Charles Perraultâs celebrated tale, set to music by Sergei Prokofiev, is transposed to a film set. In a series of references to the heroes of the American cinema, Rudolf Nureyev propels his Cinderella under the spotlights of Hollywood. With a producer for fairy godmother and a star actor as Prince Charming, she escapes her miserable destiny and sees her dreams come true. FRENCH INSTITUTE / 25 June, 6pm

Atmosphere | Some Like it Hot: Voted the best comedy of all time, Billy Wilderâs 1959 classic opens in Prohibition-era Chicago where two speakeasy musicians, Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon) witness a mob shooting and need to get out of town as soon as possible to escape murder. Sweet Sue and her all-girl Society Syncopators are about to leave the Windy City and head to Miami by train. They need a saxophone player and a bassist to complete the band. Peopleâs Emergency Briefing film showing: Tipping points are hard to see... until they happen! The Man from London - 35mm: Adapted from Belgian mystery master Georges Simenonâs 1934 novel and codirected by BĂŠla Tarrâs wife, Ăgnes Hranitzky, The Man from London centers on everyman railway operator Maloin (Miroslav Krobot), whose observation tower affords him a godlike view of the dockside terminus. One night, Maloin witnesses a murder that places him in possession of a briefcase filled with English currency. Nowhere + The Cineskinny live podcast: This Queer Cinema Sundays screening will be followed by a live captioned panel discussion with the CineSkinny Podcast, with hosts Peter Simpson, Anahit Behrooz, Ellie Robertson and Jamie Dunn which will be recorded live for the podcast. In Los Angeles, a colourful assortment of bohemians try to make sense of their intersecting lives. The moody Dark Smith, his bisexual girlfriend, her lesbian lover and their shy gay friend plan on attending the wildest party of the year. But theyâll only make it if they can survive the drug trips, suicides, trysts, mutilations and alien abductions that occur as one surreal day unfolds. 28 June, 7.20pm

German Cinema: âTandem - In welcher Sprache träumst du?â: Fanny, a 17-year-old schoolgirl from France, goes on a language exchange trip to Germany. RAP WORLD (2024)/6 TILL 6 (2025): DV8 Film Club: DV8 Film Club presents a double bill screening of Conner O'Malley/Danny Scharar's Rap World and Arran Ashan/Mustafa Mohamoud's 6 Till 6.In Rap World, three friends come together over one night to make the greatest rap album known to all mankind. In 6 Till 6, two friends set out on the streets of London with no intention but to stay awake for 24 hours, filming everything that comes their way. Prepare to laugh, despair, and to feel something deep inside as you join these filmmakers on night-time odysseys through two different parts of the Western world: suburban midwest America at the peak of the noughties, and the diverse, complicated landscape of post-COVID London.
